Black Duck Gallery Artist in Residence program.
The Black Duck Gallery and Cottage is a stylish yet cosy space built by local craftsman John Burke.
The space will not only be available for holiday goers, it will also be home to the Black Duck Artist in Residence program.
With Mt Ninderry out one window and the Maroochy River out the other, Black Duck is a space to truly relax and get creative while connecting with the public, and putting on your very own solo exhibition in a professional gallery space. Expressions of interest will be taken for the Artist in Residency Progam
What is the Artist In Residence?
Our Artist in Residence (AIR) program is a series of 5 night residencies for artists to exhibit and sell artworks, promote themselves as an artist and connect with the public through events and workshops. During your stay in the cottage you will have full use of the Black Duck Cottage Gallery, the Black Duck Workshop and the beautiful surrounds to create work in.
So you can make the most of your stay the Residency includes a marketing package and a catered opening event leaving you the time to focus on what you do best….getting creative.
This year we have 2 residencies on offer:
September 19th – 24th
October 10th – 15th
What you provide
As part of your residency you will host at least two events to engage with the public including an opening event which is included as part of the package. The Black Duck AIR operates as an open studio so you are required to be available and open to the public for at least 5 hours a day.
In a nutshell:
- You need enough work to fill the gallery space on arrival
- Be prepared to work from the space and have the gallery open to the public for at least 5 hours per day.
- Host an opening event and at least one workshop/talk/public engagement during your stay. The more events the opportunity for public involvement.
In participating in the residency program, not only are you promoting yourself as an artist, sharing your art and giving yourself the time to create, but by engaging with the public, you are helping to build a greater understanding of the artistic community and also inspiring others within their own practises.
Truly an opportunity to create and engage with the community.
